Hernia Repair procedures involve returning this displaced tissue to their proper place. There are different types of Hernia Repair surgeries, i.e., Herniorrhaphy (tissue repair) and hernioplasty (mesh repair) where a mesh is usually sewn over weakened areas.

About Hernia repair
Hernia repair is a surgical procedure done to correct the bulging of the organs or tissue through the weakest part of the muscle or tissue wall. It is recommended when the bulge can't be pushed back in and causes pain and inconvenience. The surgery helps to relieve pain, return the hernia to its correct place and, strengthen the weak muscle area.
The procedure usually takes about 30-45 minutes and is done on an outpatient basis. The urgency of the procedure depends on the size of the hernia and the symptoms.
Signs that you need Hernia repair surgery
Immediate care or surgery may be needed when the person is facing-
● Long-term hernia pain or discomfort that interferes with everyday activities and worsen over time.

Types of Hernia operations
There are 2 types of surgical procedure to cure hernia-
- Open surgery- It is the most conventional way to treat groin hernia. In open surgery, the doctor makes an incision in the groin and pushes the enlarged tissue back to its normal position.
- Laparoscopic surgery- This technique uses cameras and equipment inserted through small incisions around the hernia. Images from those equipments are used as a guide to treat the same with mesh.
Risks and complications
After you are done with the surgery, there are some of the things that you should look out for to avoid any discomfort-
● Infection from the surgery or tissue damage
● Recurrence of the hernia
● Constipation or slow bowel movements and difficulty in urinating
● Hemorrhage or internal bleeding
● Incisional hernia that develops through a surgical cut
● New symptoms develop that were not present at the time of surgery
● Odor or discharge from the incision, either blood or puss
● Inflammation and pain that does not respond to pain medications or ice
● Stomach cramps
● Sharp abdominal pain and vomiting
